Almost everyone has been
on a diet at some point, but the
lack of perseverance, willpower , time, hope or call it X, has condemned us not lose weight or
recover anything the few kilos lost in a jiffy. 'Well Juanita of such did that regime
and bush, it thinned like 12 kilos!'. Great, congratulations to her but
you and why does not it work for you?
Forget excuses of the caliber 'is that I get fat lettuce' or
'what happens is that I'm doing
muscle and so I do not low in
volume yet'. The diet has not helped you and
if you have lost something is time and money in slimming products and follow
the valuable advice of people who are thinning (often without even wanting it,
bravo).
It is probably that you are doing it wrong and you have
committed some of the six terrible failures that Dr. Sally Norton hascompiled in the Daily Mail so
that you know once and for all why your diet is not working.
It is circumstantial, not a habit
For you to diet is to change the turkey for
the turkey but only a little, and this does not work well. You have to be aware of the importance
of changing your eating habits: "Dieting is a quick solution that can work
in the short term, but you do not face the real reasons you get fat," says
the specialist in nutrition and dietetics.
If your diet is a major change in the way you eat, as well as in
the type of food that your weekly
menu usually occupies, the
pounds you want to lose will end up becoming stronger in the long run. As soon as you stop eating what the
chosen regime establishes you will recover in less than a cock crows the weight
that you had lost (and even more).
"Instead of thinking about what you eat, think about when,
where and why you eat it," explains Norton who recommends doing a mental exercise to find out what or which dietary habits we have
and that keep us from losing weight. For
example, if you give the fruit and vegetables in your house but do not stop
fattening, maybe your doom is being the vending machine for work or the tapas
you do in the evenings. Sometimes
a gesture as simple as reducing two to one tablespoon of sugar in your daily coffee can be much more effective than switching to saccharin during the month you dieting.
You are not 20 years old
As we age, we lose muscle mass. It is called sarcopenia and
means that over the years we can lose around 8% per decade. "This reduces our metabolism and
can make it harder for us to lose weight," says the doctor.
"Adult women, in particular, do not realize that no matter
how much they go to the gym if they do not eat the right thing, they will not
lose kilos or volume," Norton continues. We
think of proteins as something that makes
us fat, but actually increasing their consumption and accompanying exercise
is the only way to tone the muscles and get a leaner figure. But of course, it is not magic: arm
yourself with patience and work hard.
You do not get enough sleep
Sleep can have a lot more influence on what you weigh than you
think. Several researches have
shown that sleeping badly one night causes us to consume many more calories, especially fatty foods and high
levels of sugar, to get an energy boost the next day.
Feeling exhausted also influences our mood: we feel sad, tired
and discouraged and this affects our will power that takes the day off to
snooze by the corners. Getting
enough sleep and feeling full
of energy will drive weight loss and help us to be able to not skip our diet.
Instead of thinking about what you eat,
think about when, where and why you eat it
Healthy, but packed food
"With so many people trying to eat healthier, food
companies and marketers have taken note and have used it to make their products
more attractive by labeling them as healthy alternatives. This is very good when they are, but
very often the terminology or images that they put us to believe that they are super
health products are nothing more than a hoax, "warns Norton.
Muesli bars, some fruit juices, certain cereals or salads dipped
in tasty sauces may actually be full of extra sugars and calories. The problem is that, as several market
studies have shown, when we think that something is healthy we tend to eat
more, and before these deceptions is not a good idea. When you go to make the purchase avoid
getting carried away by photos and healthy slogans and try to consume fresh
products that you cook yourself and not packaged and processed foods.
You live stressed
When we are nervous and tense our body asks us to consume more
fatty and sugary foods because these activate the pleasure zones of our brain
and make us feel better. Not only
that, cortisol, one of our stress
hormones, is one of the culprits of accumulating fats because it drives the
weight gain around our waist...
"I know that eliminating the stress of our lives altogether
is almost an impossible case, but carrying out simple habits that help minimize
stress levels could be the key to helping us lose weight," explains the
doctor.
Fast Diets Do not Work
"I've seen it over and over," says Norton, "women
and men who are doing the desperate surgery to lose weight after having done
one diet after another for years. Each
time they fail with another regime of shock or quick fix, they end up feeling depressed and disappointed with themselves as if it were their fault and their
willpower defrauded them again ... I always say: miracle diets just do not
work. "
Lasting weight loss does not usually happen overnight. Losing
a few pounds and not recovering them soon is something that involves time,
effort and hard work, but especially a change in your habits and your
mentality. "Remember,
slimming is a marathon, not a sprint," he said.
